About Lamy

Around the world the LAMY brand stands for high-quality designer writing instruments with a timelessly modern aesthetic and perfect functionality. In 1966, the LAMY 2000 model established the clear, unmistakable design language that still characterises the style of all the brand’s products today – the Lamy design. Each year, Special Editions continue to set trends and inspire handwriting fans around the world with innovative colours and finishes. By the anniversary year 2026, Lamy will have launched further new models and pioneering product concepts.

As an independent family company, since its foundation in 1930 Lamy has been firmly committed to Heidelberg as its only production centre, guaranteeing consistently premium quality “Made in Germany”. Sustainability is the principle underlying all entrepreneurial action in the sense of bringing responsibility into our real lives. Behind this is a clear commitment to positive economic performance under ecologically sound production conditions and corporate social responsibility that helps to strengthen society.

With an annual production of over 8 million writing instruments, Lamy is today not only the market leader in Germany, it has also developed to become a sought-after lifestyle brand around the world. Lamy generates a good half of its turnover abroad. The brand is now represented in more than 80 countries with over 15,600 sales outlets worldwide, including around 200 mono-brand stores.

Lamy Design

Writing instruments from Lamy follow a common design philosophy: every product must fulfil its function and be durable and beautiful.

Writing instruments from Lamy have their own unmistakable design language. A Lamy is a Lamy – and you can see it! The reason for this is the characteristic Lamy design, which is based on clear design language and a consistent focus on practical utility.

No design element is accidental but rather always developed from the function. Consequently, writing instruments from Lamy are not fashionable but always modern – and therefore timeless.

Functional design

We first formulated and implemented this design philosophy in 1966.

This was the year when the LAMY 2000 came onto the market. The fountain pen defined the design guidelines that apply to this day: reduced in form but complete in function. Since then, all writing instruments from Lamy have been developed according to this principle of functional design – a LAMY safari as much as a LAMY pico or LAMY scala.

International designers

Every one of these writing instruments is unique in its function, its aesthetics, its suitability for different writing occasions, yet they are all unmistakably Lamy.

They are always developed in cooperation with prestigious international designers and design studios, for example including Franco Clivio, Naoto Fukasawa, sieger design and Jasper Morrison.

Quality and design “made in Germany”

Lamy Design is inextricably linked with an uncompromising quality standard. We have always ensured this through production on the Heidelberg site: even in times of increasing internationalisation, Lamy writing instruments are manufactured in Germany and therefore represent the highest standards of quality and design worldwide “made in Germany”.

Lamy design milestones

Our product icons from LAMY 2000 to LAMY aion
In their own individual ways, writing instruments from Lamy embody the design principles of the LAMY brand.
They all pursue one common aim: to bring aesthetics and functionality into perfect harmony.

LAMY aion

A sleek, perfectly-proportioned body, a straight clip, a stainless-steel spring. The new LAMY aion is this minimalist. Beside a new manufacturing process, for the first time, a Lamy fountain pen has been equipped with a series-exclusive, newly-formed nib.

Design: Jasper Morrison

LAMY Lx

The LAMY Lx is a stylish, modern writing instrument with that “something special”. A functional and elegant companion. Made of aluminium, it features stylish details refined with precious metal and a sophisticated anodised finish.
Never before has writing been so much about lifestyle.

LAMY imporium

The combination of playful details and consistently reduced forms gives the LAMY imporium series its unmistakeable appearance – a stylish union of contemporary design and luxury writing. Top quality materials such as gold, platinum and titanium highlight the premium standards of this very special pen.

Design: Mario Bellini

LAMY dialog

The LAMY dialog is a capless fountain pen in which the nib and clip can be elegantly lowered with a simple twist. Its spring system is manually adapted with the highest level of precision in each individual pen so that the nib and clip are in an exact straight line.

Design: Franco Clivio

LAMY studio

The LAMY studio shows just how close design and art can be. The propeller-shaped clip adds an innovative design touch and stands out from the bulky metal body. High-quality stainless steel and top quality surfaces round off the stylish design of this series.

Design: Hannes Wettstein

LAMY pico

The LAMY pico is a real master of transformation which reveals its true size when slight pressure is applied: thanks to the sophisticated push mechanism, the compact cylinder is transformed into a full-grown ballpoint pen in a flash.

Design: Franco Clivio

LAMY accent

The first writing instrument to come with an interchangeable grip. Depending on the chosen combination, a completely new look can be created, adapted to personal style. Various material combinations, from wood and rubber to lacquer and precious metal, allow the series to sparkle time and again in a new light.

LAMY Al-star

The LAMY AL-star pairs smart design with the lightness and cool elegance of the high-tech material that is aluminium, anodised in various colours. The LAMY AL-star an attractive, young writing instrument which satisfies even the highest requirements.

Design: Wolfgang Fabian

LAMY swift

The capless rollerball writes with fascinating fluidity, gliding over the paper. It writes as elegantly as a fountain pen – but is as easy to handle as a ballpoint. Its main feature is a special push mechanism which allows the ink refill to slide out while at the same time, the clip retracts into the casing.

Design: Wofgang Fabian

LAMY abc

With Lamy’s help, children learn to write systematically. First step is the LAMY abc Beginner’s Pencil. Then comes the LAMY abc Beginner’s Fountain Pen using ink. Both instruments were designed for children, from an ergonomic as well as a pedagogical point of view. This makes writing both easy and fun.

Design: Entwicklungsgruppe Mannheim/Prof. Bernt Spiegel

LAMY safari

Many attractive colours, timeless design, perfect ergonomics. These are just some of the reasons that the LAMY safari is one of the most popular writing instruments worldwide. Distinctive recessed grip guarantees writing comfort.
